These paintings are of a housing estate in Berck-sur-Mer. I used opaque, pastel colour as I wanted to convey mystery and alienation. Opacity is a lack of transparency or translucency. It is impenetrable, you cannot see through it and these shuttered houses suggest enigmatic closure, somewhere from which, as spectators, we are shut out.
